La Chimera d'Albegna
The winery
La Chimera d’Albegna is located in Manciano, province of Grossetto in the Maremma Toscana district. Maremma is unique because of the diversity of its topography: blue shimmering sea, long sandy beaches, hills covered with woods, marshes and flat lands, green hills and natural thermal baths. During the growing season, the weather is temperate, the hottest Tuscany permits for an exceptional ripeness, and the most ideal in Tuscany. The winery’s proximity to the sea contributes to well-structured, fresh and sapid wines.
Our wines are designated Maremma Toscana DOC or Toscana IGT.
The Estate
The Chimera estate is comprised of four individual, sun-soaked hilly vineyards. Each vineyard features a collection of different grape varieties, which include Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot Canaiolo, Syrah, Ciliegiolo, Alicante and Colorino. Our soils are rich in minerals and the grapes are harvested by hand.
The mineral content of the soil manifests in the wines, imparting a savory, lingering flavor profile and a long-lasting cellar life.
Story
In 1999, the Florentine-based Becherini family relocated to Maremma to rediscover a family heritage of producing beautiful wine. With the passion to create a modern Tuscan winery that honoured tradition, the Becherinis worked tirelessly to realize their dream of releasing the first vintage in 2008.
Today, La Chimera d’Albegna is available throughout Italy and across the world. We produce 100,000 bottles per year. The winery takes its name from the river Albegna, located in the province of Grosseto, which flows near our estate. The name also derives from the Chimera, a mythical Etruscan animal depicted in our emblem and on most of our wine labels.
The Cellar
At La Chimera d'Albegna, every harvest begins with the careful hand selection of the grapes grown in the estate's four vineyards. Each variety is vinified separately to preserve its unique character and faithfully express the identity of every vineyard.
Combining modern winemaking techniques with deep respect for Tuscan tradition, the winery carefully oversees every stage of production, from fermentation to ageing. The result is a collection of elegant, well-balanced wines that reflect the authentic character of Maremma and the passion of the Becherini family.
