The winery

MONTEDIDIO is a wine project dedicated to the rich heritage of Southern Italy, bringing together two of the region's most distinctive territories: Sicily and Puglia.

Through its two lines, COMPAGNIA SICILIANA 1921 and MYTHOS, MONTEDIDIO explores the diversity of Southern Italian wine culture, connecting historic grape varieties, landscapes and traditions with a contemporary approach to winemaking.

COMPAGNIA SICILIANA 1921 is dedicated to Sicily, a land shaped by centuries of encounters between Eastern and Western civilizations and home to an extraordinary diversity of native grape varieties.

MYTHOS focuses on Puglia, another historic Mediterranean wine region whose identity is deeply connected to its land, climate and long-standing viticultural traditions.

Under the guidance of enologist Mario Ercolino, MONTEDIDIO brings these different expressions together within one project, celebrating the cultural and natural richness of Southern Italy through wine.

Story

The story of MONTEDIDIO is rooted in the extraordinary cultural and viticultural heritage of Southern Italy.

For centuries, this part of Italy has been a meeting point between peoples, civilizations and cultures. Its wines are the result of this long history, shaped not only by local traditions but also by the movement of people, ideas and grape varieties throughout the Mediterranean.

Within this broader heritage, MONTEDIDIO focuses on two territories with particularly strong identities: Sicily and Puglia.

The COMPAGNIA SICILIANA 1921 line takes its inspiration from Sicily's long wine history and from the remarkable diversity of its native grape varieties. The name itself refers to 1921, considered one of the most prosperous years for Sicilian wine production and trade.

The MYTHOS line turns its attention to Puglia, continuing the project's exploration of Southern Italy through another historic Mediterranean wine territory.

Together, the two lines tell a broader story of Southern Italian wine—one rooted in history, territory and the extraordinary diversity of its vineyards.

The Estate

MONTEDIDIO draws from two distinctive Southern Italian territories: Sicily and Puglia, each characterized by its own landscapes, climates, soils and grape-growing traditions.

Sicily is particularly remarkable for the diversity of its natural environments. Across the island, vineyards can be found in areas ranging from dry and arid zones to more humid landscapes, with volcanic, sandy, clay, calcareous and humus-rich soils. This extraordinary variety has allowed numerous grape varieties to find their ideal environments over the centuries.

Among Sicily's most representative native varieties are Carricante, Catarratto, Nero d'Avola, Nerello Cappuccio, Nerello Mascalese, Perricone, Grillo, Grecanico, Inzolia and Frappato.

Puglia offers a different but equally distinctive expression of the Mediterranean, with its own long-standing viticultural traditions and native grape varieties.

For MONTEDIDIO, these territories are more than geographical locations. They are the foundation from which the different identities of its wines emerge.

The Cellar

MONTEDIDIO's winemaking project brings together two distinct regional expressions under one identity.

COMPAGNIA SICILIANA 1921 celebrates the viticultural heritage of Sicily through native and internationally established varieties, including Nerello Mascalese, Nero d'Avola, Grillo, Inzolia and Syrah. The line reflects Sicily's extraordinary diversity and its long history as a crossroads of Mediterranean cultures.

MYTHOS is dedicated to Puglia, offering another expression of Southern Italian wine and extending the MONTEDIDIO project beyond Sicily to a second historic Mediterranean territory.

At the heart of both lines is the work of Mario Ercolino, whose oenological approach brings together the character of each territory and the distinctive qualities of its grape varieties.

Two territories, two identities, one vision: to express the heritage of Southern Italy through wine.
