Terre di Serrapetrona

The winery

Terre di Serrapetrona takes its name from the land where the rare native grape Vernaccia Nera has been cultivated for centuries, while Tenuta Stefano Graidi identifies the wines produced entirely from the estate’s own vineyards.

The winery follows a philosophy based on patience and respect for nature. From carefully waiting for the grapes to reach perfect ripeness and complete their natural drying process, to the long ageing in oak and bottle, every stage is guided by time to achieve balance, elegance and authenticity.

Story

Terre di Serrapetrona was founded in 1999 by a group of local entrepreneurs with the goal of reviving Vernaccia Nera and preserving the traditional appassimento method that has long defined the wines of Serrapetrona.

In 2016, the Graidi family began an extensive restoration of the estate, focusing on quality, sustainability and research. Their vision is to establish Vernaccia Nera as one of the true native red grapes of the Marche region. Since 2021, the vineyards have been cultivated according to organic farming principles, supported by environmentally friendly technologies and modern winemaking facilities. Today, visitors can also enjoy tastings overlooking the vineyards in the estate’s dedicated tasting room.

The Estate

Located around 30 kilometres from the Adriatic coast, the 66-hectare estate includes approximately 20 hectares of vineyards, where Vernaccia Nera represents about 80% of the plantings. Pecorino, Sauvignon and Sangiovese are also cultivated.

The vineyards are divided into small plots surrounded by olive trees, woodland and natural waterways, creating excellent biodiversity. South-facing slopes, significant day-to-night temperature variation, sea breezes and marl-calcareous soils provide ideal conditions for organic viticulture. The estate also includes an agriturismo offering accommodation and local cuisine.

The Cellar

The winery specialises in Vernaccia Nera, producing both Vernaccia di Serrapetrona DOCG, the unique sparkling red wine made through its traditional three-fermentation process, and Serrapetrona DOC still red wines.

Appassimento plays a central role in the winery's philosophy, allowing the grapes to develop complexity while preserving freshness and varietal character. Alongside its signature wines, the estate also produces white wines, rosé sparkling wine, red blends and a sweet red passito, all crafted to express the versatility of Vernaccia Nera and the identity of Serrapetrona.
