Val d'Aosta
La Source
The winery
La Source was founded in 2003 by Stefano Celi, descendant of a local family dedicated to agriculture for generations. The company takes its name from the small spring (source in Frenchth) that was discovered when the cellar was built . lt is located in Saint Pierre, close to the Sarriod the la Tour Castle, with its 9.5 hectares of vineyards located between 650 and 920 meter above sea level. All agronomic operations are performed manually by the owners since the impervious territory does not allow using machines.
Story
The La Source winery was founded in 2003 thanks to the experience and passion of a group of young farmers, descendants of Aosta Valley families who had been farming for generations. The winery takes its name from the small spring discovered when the winery was built; "la source" means spring in French. It is located in Saint Pierre, a short walk from the castle of the same name and not far from the "Sarriod de la Tour" castle.
The company is currently owned by the Celi-Cuc family, and Stefano Celi is its heart and soul, a descendant of a family that has been dedicated to farming in the Asota Valley for generations. Stefano has always been a farmer, first part-time and then full-time since 2005, dedicating all his energy to agriculture, particularly winemaking.
The Estate
The estate has 7.5 hectares of vineyards, located between 650 and 900 meters above sea level, which are planted with international grape varieties: Syrah, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Moscato and Traminer, Petite Arvine and native grape varieties: Petit Rouge, Fumin, Premetta, Cornalin and Vien de Nus.
The vineyards are located near the winery, in one of the most suitable areas of the Aosta Valley, known as Torrette. The Torrette area, a promontory straddling the villages of Saint-Pierre and Sarre, is equally divided between the two mountain slopes.
The typical training system is espalier, which has completely replaced the ancient sapling system.
The entire area is covered by the Petit Rouge grape, which adapts well to the terrain thanks to its remarkable tolerance to cold and drought. The main and renowned red wine made from the Petit Rouge grape is Torrette, which takes its name from this eponymous promontory.
On the promontory, thanks to the altitude, the full southern exposure, and the low temperatures mitigated by the rocks and deep basins, the habitat is optimal for viticulture.
Mountain viticulture, heroic viticulture: this is the name given to the hard work and passion, passed down through generations, that Stefano and his staff face every day.
The Cellar
The winery is located at 700 meters, where all agricultural operations are carried out manually, without the aid of mechanical machinery because the impervious terrain does not allow it.
To underline this effort, in 2003 Stefano chose the open hand for the company logo.
The care of the vineyards is directly followed by Stefano who chooses the best agronomic techniques for the care of our vines, while for the winemaking he collaborates with the oenologist Mario Ronco, who has been following the company step by step for years now.
The winery's total production is 40,000 bottles per year.
In 2020, the farmhouse was opened near the winery, where you can spend your holiday, enjoy a lunch or dinner together with our wines and our products.
