The winery

Surrounded by the extraordinary natural heritage of the Murgia Plateau, Colli della Murgia has always designed its winery in harmony with the surrounding landscape.

Inspired by the De Laurentis building in nearby Santeramo, an elegant example of late nineteenth-century industrial architecture characterised by its impressive cross vaults, the winery was created to preserve a balance between architecture and nature.

The use of local materials, such as tuff and mazzaro limestone, allows the cellar to blend naturally into its environment, becoming not only a place of production but also a living space perfectly integrated with the landscape.

Since the beginning, Colli della Murgia has cultivated its vineyards with the utmost respect for biodiversity and the natural ecosystem. This commitment led to obtaining Organic Certification in 1996, making the winery one of the first certified organic wineries in Apulia.

Its mission remains unchanged: producing healthier wines while protecting the land and rediscovering the value of native grape varieties.

Story

The rebirth of Minutolo

One of the most important chapters in the history of Colli della Murgia is the rediscovery of Minutolo, an ancient Apulian white grape variety.

In 1998, the winery brought this rare and aromatic grape back to life after its cultivation had almost disappeared. Through careful research and the selection of individual grafts from the last remaining vines found in the Itria Valley, Colli della Murgia replanted Minutolo in the vineyard located in front of the cellar.

At the time, it was the first vineyard in Apulia dedicated to the revival of this variety.

Today, Minutolo is recognised as one of the most fascinating white grape varieties of the region, representing the winery’s commitment to preserving local heritage through research and innovation.

The Estate

Colli della Murgia is located in Alta Murgia, the stone heart of Apulia, an extraordinary territory shaped by the continuous interaction between nature and human activity.

The landscape is characterised by rocky ridges, gentle hills, karst caves, sinkholes, steep escarpments, forests and vast natural pastures. A unique environment where geology, biodiversity and agricultural traditions coexist.

The soils of the Murgia Plateau are rich in ancient geological formations, including limestone, tuff, clay, sand and alluvial deposits. Combined with humus and the characteristic red earth of Apulia, these elements create ideal conditions for viticulture.

In 1998, this precious territory received its highest recognition with the establishment of the Alta Murgia National Park.

The winery is located near Gravina in Puglia, a town with an ancient winemaking tradition, as celebrated by its historic motto:

“Grana dat et Vina”
(The land gives grain and wine.)

Today, Colli della Murgia stands between the protected area of Bosco Difesa Grande and the Bradano Valley, surrounded by a landscape that defines the identity of its wines.

The Cellar

The cellar of Colli della Murgia reflects the philosophy of the winery: a place where production, architecture and nature exist in perfect balance.

Built using native materials and inspired by the traditional architecture of the region, the winery has become a natural extension of the surrounding landscape.

Here, modern winemaking techniques meet respect for tradition, with particular attention to organic farming and the enhancement of native grape varieties.

The cellar represents the heart of a project dedicated to expressing the authentic character of Alta Murgia through wines that reflect the uniqueness of this extraordinary territory.
