Bicento

APPELLATION: DENOMINATION OF CONTROLLED ORIGIN (DOC)

GRAPE VARIETY: 100% AGLIANICO FROM TAURASI HILLS

This precious wine is made of grapes exclusively coming from a special and unique field in the volcanic hills around Taurasi village, in the Avellino Province, where grapevines were never affected by phylloxera, a parasite that destroyed most grapevines in Europe at the end of the 19th century. Therefore, these grapevines are over 200 years old, being some of the oldest grapevines in Europe, and this is the specificity that is recalled in this wine’s name. In fact BICENTO literally means 200 years.

Grapes are harvested by hand and transported in small boxes of 20 kg each to the winery where they are subject to light pressing and then left for maceration for about 20 days in steel silos where they undergo alcoholic fermentation. At the end of fermentation, the wine is separated from grape skins and transferred in new French oak barrels of 225hl for 12 to 18 months.

This wine is very concentrated, the palate is dense and persistent. On the nose it has aromas of ripe red fruits, cherries and spices. The barrel aging supports the wine with additional character without covering the original aromas.descrizione
